Earthquake

Date: 2011–2013

The Innovation Transfer Project is the transfer of the RADATT Project from Italy to Turkey.

Recently, earthquakes, particularly of high magnitude, have increasingly increased the importance of rapid damage assessment and retrofitting of damaged sections. The general objective of this project, transferred from Italy under the title “Vocational education and training for rapid building damage assessment to prevent earthquake collapses,” is as follows:
Developing a new methodology using both historical and newly compiled data for Turkey, and particularly Istanbul. After an earthquake, this method will provide general information for rapid assessment of earthquake damage in buildings. Rapid estimation and improvement of damage levels in damaged buildings after an earthquake are crucial for facilitating processes such as rescue, loss estimation, and retrofitting of damaged buildings, as well as facilitating decision-making and earthquake crisis management. Before an earthquake, this method (pre-event data) will provide information for rapid and reliable assessment of earthquake damage in existing building structures. This is crucial for the seismic performance of building structures. If the building is unsafe, detailed research and inspections and reinforcement work will be carried out by structural engineers.
